I like, can’t stand when people like, misuse the word “like”

18 Oct

When I log onto Facebook and see that so-and-so “liked” 20 stupid pointless things…. OR when I watch Miley Cyrus being interviewed and hear her say “like” every other word it irks me. I guess this and the fact that I can’t stand when people over the age of 14 can’t use the correct their/they’re/there or tell me how “good” they’re doing makes me a grammar snob.

I also find it ironic that the same people that commit the above listed grammar sins are often the first to say things such as “This is America. Learn to speak English.” How does that saying go? Let he who is without sin cast the first stone? I guess I’ve just found that in general, most real “Americans” wouldn’t be able to tell you the difference between a preposition and a conjunction and I find this distressing… In a nutshell: the English language is going downhill, and for the most part no one really cares to stop it.

If I strike up a conversation on this topic, people will largely agree that the English language evolves with the people who speak it and I just need to chill out and go with it. I’m sorry, I guess I’m just not ok with everyone in the world sounding like morons.

Yes it is indeed a disgrace that the words are lost, misunderstood or just obliterated by poor language skills…
